The usual saga of Trivikram Sreenivas movie is you go with a certain amount of expectations only to be let down by what you see but then you
realize that what you saw may not be as good as you thought it will be but it's
novel and re-watchable enough and the movie becomes a cult classic eventually.
And then it's a rinse repeat cycle when you await his next movie.
Alaa Vaikunta Puram lo is no exception, you wished the writer
stuck to his core attribute of dialogue writing during a crucial phase of the
first half instead of the protagonist showing his macho muscular brawn to
convey a point but at the same time you do not regret the length of the movie
as the basic elements of the story has lot of content and we await the unfolding
of drama with a certain amount of expectations no matter how predictable.
3v also has a known tendency to get back, yesteryear actresses
and weave a graceful and arrogant character around them, it was Nadiya few
years before, Kushbo last year and Tabbu now, and he could have done bit more
justice to her character.
As we reach half time (pardon the football verbiage) one only
hopes that 3v habitually does not deviate from the main track and get into his
usual needless unrelated comedy tracks like he has done in this duo's previous
combination S/o Satyamurthy or Attarintiki Daredi after a promising start.
The director does not disappoint this time again and gives story
the driving seat like he did in Aravinda Sametha. A habit or a practice one
wishes he continues. The way he closed the movie also has a novel touch to it
instead of making a commercial potboiler predictable emotional saga.
Allu Arjun is the visible on-screen star of the movie along with
Murali Sharma & the Maharashtrian veteran actor (Sachin something, who is
reminded about his roots proudly by my movie-going companion ever since NTR's
Kathanayakudu or before ) & Thaman striking the right chords with songs and
BGM.
While leaving the large Prasad's Screen to enjoy the richness of
the magnum opus called Vaikunta Puram, and with the crowd passionately
discussing the climax and possible interpretations, we know that Ala Vaikunta
Puram lo is rightly pipped as the Sankranti Blockbuster.
As for Trivikram Sreenivas, we only wish he could have revisited
some scenes to deliver a more satiable masterpiece. His best one till date
where he stuck to the plot was undoubtedly Athadu and if only he focuses on making
a single delicious dish like a Biryani instead of a Solar System like
North/South Indian Thali out of his movies to satisfy all sections of the crowd
thereby compromising on the core of the movie.
Till then guess he won't be doing 100% justice to the undiscovered
talent powerhouse he is or maybe he is too lazy to do so and sticks to the
tried and tested cliches.
And like rightly summarized by one of the reviewers, if only Ala
Vaikunta Puram Lo could have been Ala why couldn't it have been a little
better..
All said and done, still content with the output but given our
previous experiences will keep the expectations grounded for the next
Trivikram Movie..
IMHO, a two-time watch!
